+ NL 4 Design, a brand new day
The programme NL4Design aims to promote the export of Dutch design, and to reinforce the position of the Netherlands as Holland Design Land on the international map. NL4Design is an initiative of Brainport Eindhoven, the cities of Amsterdam, and Rotterdam, BNO (Association of Dutch Designers), and Premsela, Dutch platform for design and fashion.
The programme has been developed in conjunction with people from the fields of action, and experts on design, international marketing, and branding. It is focused on the expansion of employment in the design sector, and the reinforcement of the reputation of Holland Design Land. NL4Design wants to achieve this goal by drawing the attention of foreign countries to the international character of the Dutch design schools and the numerous design events and design exhibitions organised in the Netherlands.
Unambiguous international profile
The ultimate goal is to realise one single national programme that could moderate the competition between Dutch cities and regions, and create an unambiguous international profile for Dutch design. The programme aims to reach this goal by establishing connections between national and regional networks and innovation agendas, and by reinforcing international networks.
‘No Windmills, Cheese or Tulips’, the first exhibition of NL4Design, presents the work of nineteen designers from Brainport Eindhoven, Amsterdam, and Rotterdam. Their works testify to the power of Dutch design. The show is comprised of a wide range of furniture, interior accessories, consumer goods, and jewellery, all presented in the form of a still life by the ‘old Dutch masters’. This exhibition premiered during DesignTide Tokyo in Japan, and was on display early this year in the Designhuis in Eindhoven. Plans to stage the exhibition during the Design Week in Moscow in September 2008 have reached an advanced stage. Check out the website www.nwoct.nl.
